According to the Hậu Giang provincial Center of Agricultural Extension and Rural Services, the province has 266 households related to the model of farming eels in mud-free ponds. Eels have been listed as one of five provincial key species which will be paid attention to for development so as to satisfy domestic requirements and exportation.
Local eels are purchased by Tâm Đức One Member Ltd.,Co at the price of 130,000 vnd/kg, 20,000-25,000 vnd/kg higher than the market price.
Director of the Hậu Giang provincial Center of Agricultural Extension and Rural Services Võ Xuân Tân said that local farmers are experienced and well proactive in eel breeding and techniques. What matters the most is consumption. Eel production must assure safety requirements and satisfy export standards, especially in terms of antibiotics. They are worried that massive farming may result in reduction of prices in case of poor sales.
For the development of the agriculture industry, the Hậu Giang provincial Center of Agricultural Extension and Rural Services will continue to provide local farmers with training courses, carry out technical transferring, and instruct them to produce eels for food safety assurance and export standard satisfaction.
