Thai Binh builds successful aquaculture linkages to boost sustainable growth

In recent years, cooperative linkages among cooperatives, production groups, and individual households in Thai Binh, a northern province of Vietnam, have played a vital role in enhancing economic efficiency, reducing poverty, and generating sustainable employment.

A standout example is the Tien Dat Youth Aquaculture and Trade Services Cooperative in Thai Thuy District, established in 2021. The cooperative has been instrumental in supporting its members with technical transfers, experience sharing, and product marketing. As a result, many households have shifted from traditional extensive farming to high-tech shrimp farming. This transformation has enabled them to increase their farming cycles from one to three or four per year, lessen their dependency on weather conditions, and achieve yields of 10 – 15 tons per hectare, generating revenues of VND 2 – 3 billion per hectare per crop.

Currently, the cooperative has seven members, all professionally trained in farming techniques, pond management, breed selection, the use of biological products, and environmental protection. Each year, the cooperative supplies over 100 tons of white-leg shrimp to the market.

In Tien Hai District, the Hai Chau Aquaculture Production and Trading Cooperative has also shown tangible results. With just 1,000 square meters of ponds, each member earns approximately VND 900 million annually. Members collaborate on technical support, water resource protection, and disease control, contributing to stable and sustainable production.

Across the province, 13 aquaculture cooperatives are operating effectively. These cooperatives receive support in financing, breeding stock, technology, and market access. The Thai Binh Provincial Department of Fisheries works closely with localities to promote the establishment of cooperatives and production groups, facilitate the application of high technology and digital transformation, and encourage the use of safe, eco-friendly biological products, all aimed at improving product quality and enhancing market competitiveness.
