Quang Binh adds two more ports for 15-meter boats, assisting fishermen in combating IUU fishing
On December 2nd, the head of the Fisheries Department of Quang Binh Province announced that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has published a list of designated fishing ports for offshore fishing vessels. Quang Binh added two ports for vessels up to 15 meters in length to unload fish, aiding in seafood origin verification as part of efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The Cau Tau Fishing Port in Quang Phuc Ward, Ba Don Town, and the Mui Ong Fishing Port in Quang Dong Commune, Quang Trach District, are included in the fishing port system outlined in the Prime Minister-approved master plan for fishing ports and storm shelter anchorage areas for 2021-2023, with a vision through 2050.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Binh is responsible for coordinating with relevant authorities to regularly inspect and monitor the activities of the designated fishery port management organizations.
The People’s Committee of Ba Don Town and Quang Trach District regularly inspects and monitors the operations of designated fishery port management organizations to ensure food safety, public security, and environmental protection, supporting the smooth and safe operation of fishermen’s activities.
The leader of the Quang Binh Fisheries Sub-Department stated that the province previously had two ports, Gianh and Nhat Le, for 15-meter boats to load fish. However, both are now under upgrade, repair, or relocation, leaving no docking space for these boats.
Adding two more ports in Quang Binh for 15-meter vessels to load fish will significantly benefit fishermen by supporting compliant fisheries operations and combating IUU fishing.
