According to the Sóc Trăng provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province spent more than 51,000 ha stocking brackish water shrimp, reaching nearly 103% of the plan, with 37,000 ha of white leg shrimp (accounting for 72% of the stocking area), and the rest is black tiger shrimp. The intensive and semi-intensive farming area accounted for more than 94%, leaving an estimated output of nearly 188,000 tons, exceeding 12.5% of the plan and increasing by 24.8% as compared to the same period last year. Besides, the damaged area is contained at below 10% of the stocking area.

According to experts and farmers, this success was attributed to synchronous management solutions, efforts and innovation of farmers in applying advanced technologies in production. Farmers have been aware of selecting qualified post larvae, rehabilitating grow-out ponds prior to crops, applying pond-liner and two or three stage farming methods, and following up the crop schedule.

Huỳnh Ngọc Nhã, Director of Sóc Trăng provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in 2021 the province plans to stock in 51,000 ha and estimates to achieve 172,000 tons.
