Green technology – A key to sustainable aquaculture

Green technology is paving a new path toward sustainable aquaculture in the Mekong Delta in particular and Vietnam as a whole, helping reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

At the recent French Tech Summit Vietnam 2025 held in Ho Chi Minh City, the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) introduced the 3R4CSA project, aimed at developing climate-smart aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, with an impressive pilot model implemented in Ca Mau.

The 3R4CSA project stands as a vivid example of effective collaboration between France and Vietnam in the fields of science and innovation.

Funded by the FSPI Fund under the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and coordinated with the French Embassy in Vietnam, the project brings together Vietnamese and French research partners along with private sector involvement.

The goal of 3R4CSA is to promote circular, biosecure, and low-emission aquaculture systems, transitioning from traditional intensive farming methods to more sustainable models that support green growth.

Fostering innovation and circular practices

In addition to its environmental goals, the project fosters innovation in waste recycling technologies, provides training for students and fish farmers, and lays the groundwork for technological transformation in the region.

At CIRAD’s exhibition booth, joined by partners such as Seaweed Concept, VietAime, the Research Institute for Aquaculture No.2 (RIA 2), and Can Tho University (CTU), cutting-edge research outcomes and green tech solutions were showcased. Seaweed Concept and VietAime, two pioneers in applying green technology and circular economy models to real-world production, presented several innovative approaches.

Engagement at French Tech Summit 2025

As part of the summit, CIRAD scientists took part in key events including an in-depth roundtable on green technologies, the Start-up Pitch program hosted by Le Booster Accelerator, and numerous interactive sessions at their booth with participation from experts and startup founders.

CIRAD and its partners expressed their commitment to expanding collaboration with enterprises and organizations both in Vietnam and internationally. They also emphasized the importance of practical technological applications in building a green, smart, and climate-resilient agricultural sector.

A cross-border platform for innovation and investment

Held under the theme “Riding the Crest,” the French Tech Summit Vietnam 2025 drew over 1,500 participants, including policymakers, business leaders, investors, startups, and technology experts from France and Vietnam. The event created a dynamic platform for cross-border connection in technology, innovation, and investment.
