Press Release: TARS 2026 centres on a future-ready aquafeed industry for a changing aquaculture ecosystem in Asia
March 26, 2026: The 15th edition of The Aquaculture Roundtable Series® (TARS 2026), with the theme AQUAFEEDS: Fit for Future 2.0, represents a strategic shift in aquafeed development to address current and future aquaculture needs – for today’s production systems and for the future aquaculture landscape.
The two-day meeting will be held on August 19-20, 2026 at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali Indonesia.
TARS 2026 aims to identify strategies for preparing aquafeeds to adapt to a changing ecosystem. The focus will be on fulfilling the nutritional requirements of various species using available ingredients to efficiently produce fish and shrimp at optimal feed costs, as well as identifying potential challenges within the value chain.

At the Hard Talk session, business leadersdiscussed the value chain and key dysfunctionsimpacting Asia’s shrimp aquaculture sector. Zuridah Merican, Editor of Aqua Culture Asia Pacific and Chair of TARS 2025, said:
“The aquafeed industry plays a key role in Asian aquaculture. Although shrimp farming is growing, there is still a lack of feeds tailored to lifecycle, culture intensity, production models, and new genetics. Freshwater fish feed costs reflect fish market prices, while marine fish feeds offer some species-specific options but feedmillers complain about the poor economies of scale. There is also a need for improved nursery and early-stage feeds. Future success in aquaculture relies on delivering precise nutrition to each species at optimal feed cost using available ingredients. Where are the weak links?
Future-Proofing Aquafeeds
TARS 2026 addresses these challenges by highlighting precision nutrition, balancing nutrients, digestibility, ingredient price volatility, and supply risks. Alternative ingredients need to match performance and cost. Functional feeds help manage risks by enhancing immunity, gut health, stress tolerance and resilience to diseases. The future of feeds is moving into LCAs, its carbon footprint across the feed lifecycle and traceability. Feed efficacy and efficiency are further enhanced through processing technology, smart feeding systems, AI-driven monitoring, and real-time biomass data, enabling precise nutrient delivery tailored to species, life stage, and environment, reducing waste and improving FCRs.

Inclusive Format
“Staying true to our inclusive format – where every voice matters – our program is designed to spotlight diverse perspectives and real dialogue. Through an interactive roundtable session with follow-up discussions on output, a candid Hard Talk with C-suite leaders, and meaningful exchanges between next-gen farmers and feedmillers, TARS ensures that every stakeholder has a seat at the table and a role in shaping the future of the industry in Asia,” Merican said.
This year, at the breakout session, the organizers have planned for the roundtables to be grouped into (1) Shrimp Feeds (2) Freshwater Fish Feeds and (3) Marine Fish Feeds. Participants will have to indicate their preferred group during registration.

A forte of TARS, the Interactive RoundtableBreakout Sessions gives every participant anopportunity to share their ideas and experiencesin advancing shrimp aquaculture.#TARS2025
