Prime Minister visits Minh Phú Seafood Corp in Cà Mau
PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc inspected the operation at the Minh Phú Seafood Corporation in Cà Mau on February 5, one day ahead of a national conference on developing shrimp sector.
The Government leader praised Minh Phú’s great efforts and its significant contribution to making Vietnam secured its position as one of the top shrimp supplier in the world. The corporation has contributed actively to the community and society, particularly in regards to providing stable jobs for over 12,000 workers, he said. The PM highly appreciated the company’s research and adoption of various models for shrimp farming. Every model should ensure that the environment is protected, he said. He expressed his hope that Minh Phú will earn $2 billion from exports by 2021, contributing to realizing the national target of $10 billion in shrimp export value.
Minh Phú Seafood Corp’s products, mainly including black tiger shrimp and white leg shrimp shipping products to more than 50 foreign markets. The corporation’s shrimp export revenue was estimated at approximately US$535 million in 2016.
Minh Phú reported to the PM that they were developing a chain of shrimp farmers to ensure supply of clean raw material that meets quality requirements in foreign markets and allow an easy traceability of products. They also suggested that a mangrove-shrimp farming model could be an effective way to alleviate poverty in Cà Mau and reported that Cà Mau province currently has 100,000 hectares of mangrove forest.
