Quảng Trị: On sand shrimp culture using coastal water

The on-sand shrimp culture model using coastal water can be practically applied by farmers in Quảng Trị province.

On April 06, the Quảng Trị provincial Center of Agricultural Extension in association with Đắc Lộc Seafood Company (Phú Yên province) held a webinar to introduce the on-sand shrimp culture model using coastal water for food safety and disease prevention assurance.

Attendants were introduced to the on-sand shrimp culture model using coastal water for food safety and disease prevention assurance. This model can be practically applied by farmers in Quảng Trị.

Attendants discussed and pointed out limits of on-sand shrimp culture in Quảng Trị, for example: local farmers have not been proactive in production and provision of enough broodstocks; water environment has not been handled; and the control of disease faces lots of difficulties.

Besides, the application of science and technology in shrimp culture has been facing challenges, the facilities in some farming areas have not been invested for improvement.

Some solutions to technical procedures, production organization, and infrastructure have been proposed by attendants with an aim to build on-sand shrimp culture areas for sustainability, intensive cultivation, and disease safety assurance.

Quảng Trị has spent a total of 1,269 ha on culturing shrimp (216 ha on black tiger shrimp and 1,053 ha on white leg shrimp), with over 50 ha being applied with hi-tech procedures.

Đắc Lộc Company said that they would study a long-term investment policy in commercial shrimp farming and production of qualified PLs in Quảng Trị. Moreover, they will build a shrimp hatchery and hi-tech intensive farms, and develop some key models in the province.
