Quang Tri pushes high-tech shrimp farming for sustainable growth
Shrimp farmers in Quang Tri province are turning to high-tech models to boost yields and profits, as the central province seeks to make aquaculture a key driver of its economy.
Vietnam High-Tech Aquaculture Co., Ltd., Quang Tri Branch 1, produces more than 420 metric tons of whiteleg shrimp annually on 70 hectares using the CPF Combine House system. The company has invested nearly VND 40 billion (USD 1.6 million) in closed ponds, water-quality monitoring software, and wastewater recycling, achieving yields of 80 tons per hectare, 20% higher than traditional methods.

Farmer Tran Van Dung in Vinh Thuy commune has also shifted three hectares to a three-stage model with lined round ponds and recirculating water treatment, earning profits of VND 1.8-2 billion (USD 75,000-83,000) a year.
Quang Tri has 9,350 hectares under aquaculture with annual output of about 22,150 metric tons. Provincial officials said high-tech shrimp farms deliver 25-30 tons per hectare, four to five times the average, with profits of around VND 1 billion (USD 41,000) per hectare.
“The province will continue to invest in infrastructure, technology and digital transformation, and invite enterprises to join seed production and processing,” said Nguyen Huu Vinh, deputy director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.
