At 6:15 on 01 November 2019, local time in the US, the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) under the United States Department of Agriculture announced their confirmation that the Siluriformes fish inspection systems owned by Vietnam, China and Thailand were all analogous to the US’s.

FSIS has concluded that the Siluriformes fish inspection systems of Vietnam, China and Thailand were analogous to the US’s, following the law of the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) and the relevant implementation regulations.

In their conclusion, FSIS drew the final rule about China satisfying every requirement of exporting the poultry products to the US market. FSIS set up an email address allowing the followers to send their comments to fsispetitions@usda.gov .

FSIS submitted to the Federal Register a draft for referendum about recognizing Vietnam, China and Thaland eligible to selling their fish products and Siluriformes fish to the US market on September 2018. The draft was posted for referendum in thirty days from 19 September to 19 October 2018.

According to FSIS, the draft was drawn up upon their consideration of the law, regulations and inspection system of Vietnam and determination that the Vietnam’s Siluriformes fish inspection system is analogous to the US’s in compliance with FMIA and the relevant implementation regulations.

The draft says all fish products and material Siluriformesfish that are produced in the certified facilities are qualified to exporting to the US market. These products will be double checked by FSIS’s verification units in the US.

The US’s recognition of Vietnam’s Siluriformes fish inspection system is good news to Vietnam’s pangasius exporters, especially when the export value of Vietnamese pangasius to the US market in the first nine months of 2019 fell by 43.6% from last year.
