VietShrimp 2025 opens in Can Tho, featuring 200 pavilions

The 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo (VietShrimp 2025) began in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on March 26, featuring 200 pavilions of 150 local and foreign businesses and organisations

With the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Directorate of Fisheries, in collaboration with the Vietnam Fisheries Society, has assigned the Vietnam Fisheries Magazine and relevant units to organize the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo (VietShrimp 2025) in Can Tho City.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc He, President of the Vietnam Fisheries Society and Head of the VietShrimp 2025 Organizing Committee Nguyen Viet Thang, along with representatives from central and local government agencies, numerous businesses, international organizations, and local farmers.

In his opening speech at the fair, Nguyen Viet Thang emphasized that green production in shrimp farming is an inevitable trend in today’s seafood industry. This approach not only aligns with the policies and the Government’s commitments but also supports the green economic strategies of the agricultural and environmental sectors.

The organizers of VietShrimp 2025 hope the fair will serve as a vital forum where policymakers, scientists, businesses, and farmers can collaborate to develop optimal solutions for the sustainable growth of Vietnam’s shrimp industry. This will help sustain the seafood sector’s momentum while securing long-term livelihoods for farmers. At the same time, it offers an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp in the global market. Nguyen Viet Thang reaffirmed that sustainable production models are a key advantage for the country’s shrimp industry, paving the way for long-term value creation.

Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, Nguyen Ngoc He, stated that under the city’s fisheries development plan for 2030, Can Tho aims to build a large-scale, sustainable, and highly competitive fisheries sector. The development will align with ecological conditions and climate change adaptation. The city also aspires to become a hub for scientific and technological services in aquaculture, particularly in producing high-quality key aquatic breeds, playing a crucial role in agricultural growth.

VietShrimp 2025 offers a platform for stakeholders to discuss and seek solutions for sustainable shrimp industry development, aligning with the green production trend. This marks the third time the event is held in Can Tho, running from March 26 to 28 at the Can Tho Investment, Trade Promotion, and Exhibition Center. This year’s expo features over 200 booths from around 150 enterprises and includes four seminar sessions on key shrimp and fisheries industry issues, Nguyen Ngoc He noted.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Phung Duc Tien, emphasized the crucial role of the fisheries sector within the agricultural industry, highlighting shrimp as a key contributor that has reached impressive export milestones. However, the aquaculture industry is facing numerous challenges, including climate change, environmental pollution, and infrastructure constraints.

In the context of international integration, bold innovation is essential, with science and technology acting as the driving force. VietShrimp plays a vital role in facilitating the transfer of technical knowledge, enhancing the quality of Vietnamese shrimp, improving harvesting processes, and ensuring safe traceability. These efforts will serve as a catalyst for the growth of both the shrimp industry and the broader fisheries sector, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed.

The event marks the first collaboration with Informa Markets, the world’s leading event organizer. Under the theme “Greening Farming”, VietShrimp 2025 will showcase over 200 pavilions featuring nearly 150 domestic and international businesses and organizations. The three-day event will take place from March 26 to 28, 2025. As part of the exhibition, four seminar sessions will be held over two days (March 26-27, 2025), bringing together policymakers, aquaculture experts, business leaders, shrimp and seafood farming communities from the Mekong Delta, and hundreds of students from universities across the country.

In Vietnam, various recirculating shrimp farming models have emerged to optimize both inputs and outputs. The shrimp industry is shifting towards greener and more standardized production, an essential approach amid increasingly severe climate change. This transition aligns with the overall strategy of the fisheries sector and serves as the key objective of the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo 2025 (VietShrimp 2025).

VietShrimp has been held five times: in 2016 and 2018 in Bac Lieu, in 2021 and 2023 in Can Tho, and most recently in 2024 in Ca Mau. Over the years, the event has increasingly solidified its reputation as a premier specialized shrimp exhibition in Vietnam and worldwide. VietShrimp continues to attract  strong interest from policymakers, industry leaders, shrimp farmers, and experts from around the world. Each edition welcomes tens of thousands of visitors and thousands of delegates attending high-level conferences.

During the Opening Ceremony, the organizers also presented commemorative medals to the diamond, gold, and bronze sponsors in recognition of their contributions and support for the event’s success.
