This innovative approach, designed to adapt to climate change, is being carried out at sea in Zone C, Dong Hai ward, Phan Rang – Thap Cham city, and is part of a larger initiative led by the Ninh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center.

The project, which will run from 2024 to 2026, is also being implemented in neighboring Khanh Hoa province. In its initial phase in 2024, the model in Ninh Thuan will utilize 480 cubic meters of HDPE cages, with each cage measuring 80 cubic meters. Three local households have joined the project, with the goal of enhancing productivity and promoting the sustainable development of marine aquaculture. The initiative is also part of a broader strategy to facilitate livelihood transitions and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

A recent inspection by the National Agricultural Extension Center highlighted the success of the Ninh Thuan model. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, praised the project for its ability to create unique, high-quality products that capitalize on the region’s natural potential. According to Thanh, this model aligns with the province’s agricultural strategy, which focuses on developing value chain-based, sustainable production methods that are resilient to climate change.

To ensure the success of this initiative, Thanh called on the Ninh Thuan agricultural sector to continue supporting the model by enhancing communication efforts and organizing visits to share farming and processing techniques. Expanding these visits will help promote the adoption of effective agricultural practices across the region. Additionally, Thanh recommended the establishment of cooperatives to foster knowledge sharing and to help develop a strong brand identity for Pearl grouper products, linked with distribution networks.

This project demonstrates Ninh Thuan’s commitment to sustainable aquaculture development, while also addressing the pressing need to adapt to environmental challenges and protect marine ecosystems. By promoting innovation and collaboration, the province is paving the way for a more resilient and productive future in marine farming.
